As Joe Goldberg’s teenaged neighbor in You season 2, Jenna Ortega is poised to make herself comfortable in your living room.

The California native has already racked up several credits as a lively teenager — she previously starred in Disney Channel’s Stuck in the Middle as Harley Diaz, the engineering whiz in a family of seven kids, and as young Jane in The CW’s Jane the Virgin — but in You, Oretga’s character Ellie is a sharp-tongued high-schooler and wannabe filmmaker who ends up playing a critical role in Joe’s (Penn Badgley) adjustment to Los Angeles.

Ortega was actually a superfan of the show before joining the cast: “The day after I finished bingeing You, I got a call that they were looking for a girl around my age to be on this show that I had fallen in love with,” she tells PEOPLE. “I just remember looking at my mom and saying, ‘I have to book this part.’”

Here are five things to know about the 17-year-old actress:

1. She comes from a big, tight-knit family.

“I have five siblings — two brothers and three sisters. I’m the fourth kid. We all have scattered schedules and are kind of all over the place, but when we do get to spend time with each other we try to do that. We love to talk smack with one another and be goofy … but we’re all very supportive of each other.”

2. She grew up in Coachella Valley — and she’s a big fan of its namesake music and arts festival.

“Once you get to high school, it’s what all the “cool kids” do. Weekend 2 is locals’ weekend. I have seen some incredible acts that I feel like I would have never seen otherwise. One year I saw Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg. There’s such a wide variety of music and there’s something new to appreciate every time we go. I don’t think I’ll ever be over the hype.”

One of her favorite performances was by R&B artist Daniel Caesar, who brought his powerhouse vocals and collaborator H.E.R. to an intimate set at the 2018 festival. “It was an amazing experience,” she tells PEOPLE.

3. Her You costars have given her advice about college.

“Education has always been a priority for me, and I’m considering applying to a 4-year-program at a cool school somewhere on the East Coast like Sarah Lawrence or New York University to get away [from California] and because I love New York so much. But I’m also considering community college.

“I don’t know if I want to go to school and study acting because I’m getting the best experience doing it now. But Victoria Pedretti [who plays Love on the show] was telling me that she had studied theatre, and it was helpful for her to learn more about the background of her craft and it helped her understand the life choices she made. Then there’s Penn, who disagrees with her, saying ‘Nah.’”

4. In her free time, she likes to unwind with a good book or play with her dog.

“When I’m working, I get very focused and don’t want to do anything else, so I have to push myself to relax and be social. But when I’m free I like to play with my dog Anna [a 7-year-old malti-shitszu] or read. I’m a huge reader. The book I’m reading right now is referenced in You — The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. It’s pretty interesting, I can see why it is mentioned. But that’s all I’ll say [about it], I don’t want to give away any spoilers!”

5. You’ll see a lot more of her in 2020.

Ortega has roles in two Netflix films next year: The Babysitter 2, a horror-comedy sequel to the 2017 film starring Bella Thorne as a satanic cult leader, and Yes Day, a comedy about what happens when parents have to do whatever their children demand for one day of the year, also starring Jennifer Garner) and Édgar Ramirez.

“I’m just happy people get to see me in a different light, because as an actor, the last thing you want is to be pigeonholed into one category,” she tells PEOPLE of her new roles. “I’m excited for people to take me more seriously.”

College football fans were in awe of the ref's dramatic flop in the Quick Lane Bowl

Eastern Michigan quarterback Mike Glass was ejected with 10 seconds left in something that is called the Quick Lane Bowl for throwing punches/slaps, which was absolutely the right call by the refs because you just can’t go around punching in people in the head, which Glass clearly did.

A ref got caught up in Glass’ second punch attempt and the guy in the striped shirt went falling to the ground pretty dramatically.

Now, you can’t punch opponents but you definitely can’t punch referees. Ever. Just can’t happen.

Glass’ open right hand did catch a little of bit of the referee on this shot but it didn’t appear to warrant such a wild collapse to the ground.

Manchester United turn on style in comeback defeat of Newcastle

Anthony Martial scored twice as Manchester United hit back in emphatic fashion from a rocky start against a benevolent Newcastle United to open their Christmas programme with a 4-1 victory at Old Trafford on Thursday.

After a 2-0 loss at Watford last weekend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had demanded a response from his players but a yellow card for Scott McTominay after 24 seconds and going behind to Matthew Longstaff's 17th-minute goal was not what he had in mind.

It was all smiles later though as Newcastle folded and Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford all struck before half-time before Martial scored again early in the second half as United moved back to seventh, four points off the top four.

United have now won 21 Premier League games on Boxing Day for a win percentage of 81% -- more than any other club.

With midfielder Paul Pogba also coming on after half-time, only his second appearance since September because of injury, United will hope to end an up-and-down year with a flourish with a trip to Burnley looming on the horizon on Saturday.

"Against Watford we were not good enough for our standard but the boys showed a great intensity today and we thoroughly deserved the three points," defender Harry Maguire said.

"We have now got a big game in two days and our story so far has been a good performance and then a not so good one."

Newcastle have made steady progress up the table under former United defender Steve Bruce and could have gone above United with a win on Thursday. So when 19-year-old Longstaff tucked his shot past David de Gea after linking well with Joelinton the away fans went wild.

It was Longstaff who scored the winner in the reverse fixture at St James' Park this season, but any sense of dread for the Old Trafford faithful soon diminished as United sparked into life to play some flowing football.

Six minutes after Longstaff's goal, United were level with Martial's shot squeezing in at the near post when Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka should really have kept it out.

Newcastle offered United another gift as they tried to play out from the back but merely gave the ball to 18-year-old Greenwood who thumped a left-footed cracker in off the crossbar.

It was Greenwood's ninth goal of the season in all competitions and his emergence as a genuine goal threat has lifted the weight of expectation off the shoulders of Rashford who made it 15 for the season when he rose to head home Aaron Wan-Bissaka's inviting cross before half-time.

Newcastle's slipshod defending reached its nadir in the 51st minute when Sean Longstaff's careless back pass was pounced upon by Martial who Dubravka with ease.

"We had a horrible 20 minutes before half-time," Newcastle boss Steve Bruce said. "For the last two or three months we have been hard to beat. I know it's Christmas but I don't think Man Utd can believe it, we've made too many mistakes."

Newcastle, who have now lost more Boxing Day games in the Premier League than any other side (14) remain in 10th spot.

Fans of Dolly Parton are getting a special post-Christmas treat on Thursday. NBC is re-airing Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors, delivering a feel-good story behind the country music legend's childhood to wrap up the holiday family time in a great way.


The film is based on a true story from Parton and was followed by a sequel film in 2016 titled Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love. Both films take their name from the album and song of the same name released by Parton in 1971.

Parton's song tells the story of how her mother stitched a coat together using rags that had been given to them. Her mother weaves it in with the story of Joseph and his "coat of many colors." While the school kids still make fun of Parton in the song, she shares the moral that "poor" people are only that way if they choose to be. Even without money, the coat was full of riches for the young country legend.

The film covers a lot of the same territory but has become quite the delight for fans of Parton and her music. It expands beyond the song to cover Parton's childhood and some of the hardships she faced growing up in Tennessee's Smoky Mountains back in 1955.

Despite the film releasing in 2015, plenty were excited to see it return to the NBC airwaves for a post-holiday treat.

Luka Doncic nearly puts up triple-double in return to Mavericks after missing four games with ankle injury

Dallas Mavericks star guard Luka Doncic was sidelined for nearly two weeks, as he hadn't played since suffering an ankle sprain against the Miami Heat on Dec. 14. Despite the time off, he didn't show signs of rust when he returned to action on Thursday night against the San Antonio Spurs. Instead, the reining Rookie of the Year looked like his old self as he tallied a near triple-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists in 33 minutes of action in the Mavs 102-98 victory. 

After the game, Doncic spoke to TNT's Jared Greenburg about his return to action. Predictably, he said that he was very happy to be back out on the floor with his teammates, but admitted that he was extremely fatigued. 

"It felt good," Doncic said of being back. "It felt like I was running a marathon or something. I was so tired. It's different when you miss four or five games, but it was great being back, and we won." 

Though the Mavs were able to pick up some quality wins in Doncic's absence (they were 2-2 with victories over the Bucks in Milwaukee and the 76ers in Philadelphia), the team was better off having their floor general back in action on Thursday night. Prior to the injury, Doncic put up MVP-caliber numbers, averaging 29.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 8.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He appears to be well on the way to his first All-Star appearance. Though it was only one game, he certainly appears to be picking up right where he left off.
